INSERT GRADES AND THE
SUITABLE MATERIALS FOR EACH

ATA has two grades of inserts: AT101 and AT201.

The AT101 grade is specifically designed to give the user the highest wear resistance of the insert and utilizes a CVD coating. It has a thick aluminum oxide coating that protects against wear resistance at high speeds, even with dry machining. Suitable materials for this grade are:

  • Cast iron
  • Hardened materials

The AT201 grade is designed for high wear resistance with high toughness and uses a PVD coating. This grade is optimal for use on:

  • Low-mild steels
  • Stainless steels
  • High-temperature alloys
  • Non-ferrous materials

All ATA products adhere to superior quality controlled manufacturing processes, resulting in consistent high-caliber products.

PICKING THE RIGHT INSERT

Key questions to consider when selecting inserts:

  • Is the insert suited for the cutting material?
  • How many cutting edges does the workpiece need?
  • Can the insert be used for multiple types of applications?
  • What are the machine's RPM limitations, and is the recommended insert run speed within that range?
  • Do the grades and geometries of the insert complement each other for the application?

ATA has expert staff available to aid with proper insert selection. Our technical personnel travel to job shops for trial runs and recommend the optimal speed to run machines without affecting the tool life of the insert. This extra step in care makes ATA a trustworthy partner for customers and ensures the right insert is selected for the proper application all the time.
